Beating the "Something Good, then Something Bad" Cycle

It's 6:30am on a Thursday morning. I couldn't find my charger for my dead laptop for the past 20 minutes and I do not have todays blog written yet that is supposed to go out in 2.5 hours. Happy Thursday! Gulp.

For the past 10 days or so I have been experiencing something weird, which I like to now call the "something good then something bad" cycle - It seems like every time something good happens, something bad happens. (Bad can be used on the scale of "late to a meeting" to "losing a client") Now, I can only take a couple days of choppy water like this with a smile on my face before I think "WTF is going on!" and insist on an answer from the ceiling I'm yelling at. Intsert rolling eye emoji, brain blowing up emoji and waterfall tears emoji. Lately, each morning my alarm goes off it's like I'm peeking out of one eye with the covers still half over my head before my feet hit the ground. "What will today bring this time?" - I ponder in fear, while my dogs stare at me with intense hunger in their eyes.

So what happens when we start to feel like we are in the "something good, then something bad" cycle?

Well, we have two choices.

Choice one: live in the miserableness of the "something bad".

Choice two: fight back with positivity.

...And the latter is what we need to choose even when we don't feel like it.

Our brains like to do a lot of choosing for us. In fact, according to Google, the average person makes 35,000 decisions per day. (Woah!)  A lot of those decisions come easily like, what to wear, what shoes to grab, or "when should I cross the street?" But when it comes to making the choice of attitude and how we view the world, we usually have to chat with our hearts.

Whether we like it or not, everything that goes on in our personal lives affects our professional lives. And while we can't always control our circumstances, we do however get to control how we respond to them. I know you've heard that before, but I also know a good reminder always helps me out- and sometimes they come just when I need them most.

So todays blog isn't jammed pack with business tips or advice - it's just a simple reminder and encouragement that we have the power to choose. I've been clinging to positivity during this "something good, then something bad" cycle, and although I've lost my grip a few times, I've never given up - which has resulted in getting through it quicker. The longer we spend in the dark, the harder it is to see when the lights come back on. So goes negativity and positivity.

Positivity is not just some light switch we can flip on and BAM! we're happy again (I wish!). It takes constantly and consistently choosing joy in every moment that we can.

If you're struggling right now and having you're "WTF is going on!" moment - I am here to remind you that you will get through it and we aare always just once choice away from a positive mindset.

Cheers,

Hannah
